Samuel Blaser Quartet
Samuel Blaser (trombone) Marc Ducret (guitar) Bänz Oester (bass) Gerald Cleaver (drums)
"...Samuel Blaser writes and plays daringly on his debut as a leader, blending free jazz sensibilities with a straightahead approach. And if a trombone ever flourished in a free jazz vein, it's here... He builds ideas and expands on them artfully without a dead end in sight. He can play some serious music without taking himself too seriously and is well on his way to claiming a prominent place in the forefront of jazz..." Terrell Kent Holmes, All About Jazz - New York

7th Heaven (Between The Lines 2008)
Pieces Of Old Sky (to be released in 2009 by Clean Feed)

Samuel Blaser & Pierre Favre
Samuel Blaser (trombone), Pierre Favre (drums)
Samuel Blaser presents here another vibrant project with swiss drummer Pierre Favre that will probably stand out from the majority of projects available on the music market. The unusual combination of instruments, trombone and drums, and the marriage of their talents will allow yourself to discover a new ensemble that should provide some near and long term gratification. And as All About Jazz stated "...if a trombone ever flourished in a free jazz vein, it´s here!" This combination performs some improvised material mixed with some original compositions stretching the sound barriers from the extreme avant-garde to grooves that continue to build into endless melodies. This project is also a very special meeting between two generations, Blaser and Favre, both originally from little neighboring cities in the Canton of Neuchatel in Switzerland, Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds. They have been traveling around the world to perform their arts, telling stories and playing music. Today they will meet, share their experiences and exchange their knowledges to finally capture the listeners in their own lyric and melodic universe!

Solo Bone
Samuel Blaser (trombone)
Listen to a solo trombone concert? It is certainly not an idea that comes easily to mind even for the most experienced musicians. In any case, the listeners will be surprised: the trombone is an instrument, which has more possibilities than what we could imagine! The desire to play a solo program has always been present in my mind since my first trombone lesson and the discovery of Albert Mangelsdorff. In fact, the German trombone player was probably the first and the only one who had the boldness to explore as far as possible his instrument and play on stage by himself. Mangelsdorff has achieved a great popularity due to his unique technique of using multiphonics. Multiphonics is a technique of producing more than one tone through the instrument itself. I discovered at an early age that I was also able to produce those sounds and I rapidly include them in my improvisation's vocabulary. Nevertheless, it is since I moved to New York, by meeting different persons, that I really begun to explore all the possibilities I could play on my instrument. With this new technique and some new compositions, I was ready to play my solo trombone program and prove that the trombone is sufficient unto itself. Be on stage during one hour, alone from the beginning through the end, without even a rhythm section: An experience.

Braff Blaser Duo
Malcolm Braff (piano)_Samuel Blaser (trombone)
"... Braff's prepared piano and Blaser's extended trombone vocabularies expand the textural palette, while at the same time highlighting the rhythmic aspects of the duo's interactions...The interactions remain nuanced and intricate, with sublimely delicate moments balanced with a general penchant for pursuant momentum." Wilbur MacKenzie, All About Jazz - New York

Animal Forum
Peter Van Huffel (saxes), Samuel Blaser (trombone), Ziv Ravitz (drums)
ANIMAL FORUM, refered to by Nate Chinen of the New York Times as a "...young collective [with] an almost gleeful approach to free improvisation..." is a New York-based collective consisting of Canadian saxophonist Peter Van Huffel, Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser and Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz. This unusual bass-less combination performs all improvised material stretching the sound barriers from the extreme avant-garde to grooves that continue to build into endless melodies. The trio, who has recently released their debut independent CD, has performed around New York City, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada, and will soon be returning to Europe for a Spring 2008 tour.
